Displacement

July 24, 2009

The problem with buying a new piece of furniture, even one as beautiful as this dresser, is as follows.

If you want to put the dresser in the bedroom, then you have to move the shoe rack.

You decide to put it by the front door (that makes sense) but then you have to move the bookcase.  The BIG bookcase.

And to move that into the living room, you have to dismantle the old computer desk that has been the bane of your existence for the last year anyways. Once it's gone, you have a beautiful blank wall to put the bookcase against.

But the bookcase is too heavy with all those books!  So you put those all over the living room floor.

But, eventually, everything finds its way to a proper home and you have a beautiful dresser so that you can actually put all of your clothes away!

Isn’t it lovely?  My husband built that, with his own two hands.  Yes, it is Ikea and no, he didn’t saw the wood planks out in the woods by our apartment, but I am impressed nonetheless.  I could never have gotten this together all by myself!  I think he’s amazing.

(Please excuse the ugly green plastic bin.  It is currently displaced from the bathroom.  I wasn’t completely honest when I said that everything eventually found its way to its proper place.)

Did you ever read the children’s picture book “If You Give a Mouse A Cookie”? That’s what this post reminds me of:) The dresser is beautiful!
